Preventive, On-Going Medical Screening & Physical Exams

A periodic health examination is used to evaluate your current health status, screen for risk factors and disease, prevent the worsening of an existing disease, and provide preventive counseling interventions in an age-appropriate manner.

A careful history and a physical examination are important parts of the exam. These allow  doctor and patient to discuss recent/current symptoms or complaints, review and update medications being taken (or reactions to meds), review the past medical history, and look at on-going or new social factors that may impact health (e.g., marital status, household makeup, employment).

The physical exam may also utilize diagnostic screening procedures such as laboratory tests to check for the presence of disease before clinical symptoms arise.
